at the Martial Arts History Museum

September 21, 2024 – 4 pm – Martial Arts History Museum – Free Event

Willie Ito is one of the most heralded animators in American history. He began his career at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in the 1950s and then continued his career as one of the most revered artists for both Warner Bros. Cartoons and Hanna-Barbera Productions as a character designer which he gained huge praise for the creation of Hong Kong Phooey. He later returned and spent the rest of his career back at the Walt Disney Animation Studios.

It was the picture, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs that inspired him. But it was also during that time that he and his family were incarcerated at the Japanese Internment Camps.

He began his work on the Disney classic Lady and the Tramp and worked with such legends as Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng. His first screen credit came with Prince Valiant. Later, came The Jetsons, The Flinstones, The Yogi Bear Show, Josie and the Pussycats, The Wuzzles and the Adventures of the Gummi Bears.

Enjoy an evening with Willie Ito as he talks about his journey, his time in the camps, and his Disney, Hanna Barbera Productions, and Warner Bros. Cartoons experiences.
